The belief that you shouldn't eat before bedtime because your metabolism slows down isn't entirely accurate. For most people, metabolism doesn't come to a halt while you rest. In fact, it keeps churning away, burning calories (albeit fewer) throughout the night.
The type of food consumed, however, can make a difference in weight gain and certain foods that should be avoided to prevent interrupted sleep such as heavy, fatty meals, and spicy foods.
If you're having a late night hankering for a snack, opt for something with protein and fiber to fill you up with fewer calories. Some raw veggies and turkey slices or Greek yogurt with granola and berries are great options.
